Administration Building: Agnews State Hospital

Agnews State Hospital. California State Architectural Department . George Sellon, State Architect

The Administration Building is an eclectic blend of architectural styles. Its smooth stucco walls with buttressed corners, semi-circular arched windows, brick detailing and red tile roof are typical of the Mediterranean Revival style. Exposed, notched rafters and wooden porches and balconies were influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement popular from the late 1800s to the first World War.

The Administration Building is significant as an integral component of the post-1906 earthquake reconstruction of Agnews State Hospital. Used primarily for education and research, it housed a general library, medical library, offices, records storage, a board room and overnight facilities for the Board of Managers. . This historical marker is in Agnews Historic Park in Santa Clara in Santa Clara County California
