1942 American Navy Pullman Passendger Car Union Pacific 906065

The "American Navy" Pullman sleeper car was manufactured in 1942 by the Pullman Company, as part of its light weight "American Series." Floor plan #4099 consisted of four double bedrooms, six roomettes and six open sections. The cars were built of "cor-tan steel" using P-S girder construction and equipped with air conditioning, private rest rooms with hot and cold water sinks.

The car is 85 feet long and weighs 121,500 pounds.

With the breakup of the Pullman holdings, the car was sold to the Union Pacific Railroad in 1945. It was used for passenger car service on the Overland Route until retired in August 1968. It was converted to a maintenance of way bunk car in 1969-1970 with a kitchen, shower and bunks for workers.

The Pullman passenger car was purchased by local donors for the Spokane Fire Station Museum dba Fire and Rail Museum in Hillyard in 2009. It was maintained, operated and under the care and ownership of the Fire and Rail Museum from 2009 to 2015. On October 1, 2015, ownership was transferred to the Hillyard Heritage Museum Society. .
